ESCAPE FROM BALMORAL
Royal Children On Cycle Trip
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 31. Prince Charles and Princess Anne slipped out of Balmoral Castle yesterday without anyone seeing them, the “Sunday Express” reported. The newspaper said that the children cycled half a mile to see the Crathie Women’s Guild prepare a sale of work to be opened later in the afternoon by the Queen.
A detective was sent out on a bicycle to find the Prince and his sister when they were missed at the castle. The “Sunday Express” said that the perspiring detective had arrived at the village hall to find Prince Charles and Princess Anne munching Russian toffee.
Fifteen minutes later they cycled home with 'the detective as an escort, plus a tin of toffee given them by one of the stallholders. A castle spokesman is reported to have said that he did not think the Queen knew the children had cycled off on their own. No mention was made of the visit when the Queen opened the fair in the afternoon, the newspaper said.
