MIDLANDS TOUR

(Rec. 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 1. Mick Nola (New Zealand) lost his chance of winning yesterday’s professional cycling Midlands Tour when he crashed after 10 miles’ riding. Nola, who was favourite for the 116-mile race, fell with two other members of the 33mip bunch. The riders fell as'they hit a stretch of stone-strewn road on a short downhill run.

The winner was Russell Mockridge, who rode an amazing race to come virtually unassisted from scratch and won by five lengths from Norm Stevens and Jack McDonough, both off eight minutes. Mockridge covered the course in shr 24min Msec.
