GOLF Christchurch B Loses To Russley A In Cup Series

The third round of the interclub golf matches, w r hich had been postponed from May 19, was played yesterday. In the main match of the Woodward Cup series. Russley A was hard pressed by Christchurch B, and won by five games to three. Bussley’s strength in the lower half □f the team was decisive. M. W. Stanley, Russley's first player, beat L B. Cromb. 1 up. Driving off at the eighteenth ail square, Cromb hooked his drive slightly into the poplars at the left of the fairway. The ball was found in the branches of a tree, and Cromb conceded the hole and the game. Throughout the match, Cromb had been hitting his drives and irons with accuracy. but on several greens he three-putted, and on such occasions Stanley’s accuracy won him the hole. One up after the fifteenth. Stanley lost his advantage at the next hole, where his second found a bunker at the right of the green. After a good recovery from the bunker, Stanley threw away the hole by missing an easy putt. With the seventeenth halved, the pair went to the eighteenth all square. H. J Gosset. playing second for Christchurch B, comfortably beat another Freyberg Rosebowl player, K. D. Foxtan. Gasset was two over scratch for the 15 holes played m his match. Gasset was 2 up at the turn, having covered the first nine holes in 1 over scratch. After dropping another stroke at the eleventh, he went on to win the game, 4 and 3 Foxton was astray with his drives, and he found the bunkers on several occasions. A birdie at the second gave Foxton a good start, but he was unable to maintain this advantage. In his match with A. W Robinson. 'R. K Atkinson was not getting sufficient length in his shots.
