Fine Schoolboy Athlete
(Specially written for “The Press”) LONDON, May 1. A schoolboy who has bright prospects of becoming a British athletic representative in the future is M. R. Lindsay, who distinguished himself at the London Athletic Club schools’ meeting recently. He established a new record in the discus and equalled his own shot put record. In his first throw in the shot put, Lindsay beat his old junior British record to reach 58ft 6in. In practice he reached 61ft, only 2ft 9in less than the world schoolboys’ record. In the javelin, Lindsay equalled his own British best junior performance of 182 ft. An unorthodox javelin throwing style, based on the Spanish type which was banned at the Olympic Games has been made illegal in England after its use by 19 year old N. Head. At present, the style meets the requirements of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, but the British Amateur Athletic Association has drafted its own ruling, which makes any style but the orthodox illegal. E. Danielson, of Norway, holder of the official world record with 281 ft 2|in, recently threw 325 ft while using the unorthodox style.
