Golden Warrior May Win At Marlborough

BLENHEIM,"- May 3. Golden Warrior, winner of the Picton Hack Handicap yesterday, appears to have outstanding prospects of gaining h*s third successive win in the Marlborough Stakes, the feature event on the second day of the Marlborough Racing Club’s annual meeting tomorrow.

The Marlborough Stakes, a race for three and four-year-olds, with special conditions, has drawn a field of 11, of which six are dual acceptors. Of these, lone, Scottish King and Vita Glow were placed on Thursday, and Olymnic Torch was a decisive winner in maiden class. If this event is chosen fnr them, all could test Golden Warrior. Two newcomers, Zareska and the Riccarton-trained Gay Tommy, should a 1 so race well. i Lady Valenta was scratched for | this event today. Meteorologist, a fair third to fns + anter and lone yesterday, may be hardest to beat in the Apprentices’ Hack Handicap. His strongest opponents will probably be Nisht Patrol and Slip o’ Heather. Tarwe. which has an alternative engagement in the Havelock Hack Handicao, will be missing from the Pelorus Hack Handicap, a race in which Instanter, a dual acceptor, will probably start lone’s Chances Plans for lone, which is also in the Marlborough Stakes, were not known today, but she will be a well-supported candidate if darted. Nehru and Olympic Torch will also be possibilities. The first leg of the double will be the President’s Handicap, for which Benefactor, Shoal, and ! Scuppered appeal most. Fulgent will start in this event instead of the second leg of the double, the E. J. Harvey Handicap, which on first-day form appears to be dominated by Appreciate, Kiatoa Vita Glow, and Super Corn will also have to be respected. Doubtful starters are Beau Ray (President’s Handicap) and Transgressor (Pelorus Hack Handicap). If the weather remains fine, the track will be firm and fast.
