MINOR FIRES AT WEEK-END

No damage was caused to property by a fire which broke out in a macrocarpa hedge around the Crematorium yesterday afternoon. Fire engines from the Central and Woolston stations attended the fire at 2.59 p.m. The kitchen and its contents in £ flat occupied by Mr N. Liddell at 18 Rolleston avenue were slightly damaged by an oven fire at 12.9 p.m. Two engines from the Central fire station attended. A grass fire on- an empty section at the corner of Bamford and Connal streets. Woolston, was put out by engines from the Central and Woolston fire stations at 4.4 p.m. There was no damage to nearby property. The section is owned by S. W. Peterson and Company, Ltd.

Fire caused damage to a small toolshed at 51 Rayburn avenue, occupied by Mr W. H. Nesbit, at 5.48 p.m. yesterday. Several feet of dividing fence were also destroyed. The fire is thought to have started from spontaneous combustion in a compost heap. Fire engines from the Central and St. Albans stations answered the call. The roof of a small bach at 115 Bowenvale avenue, occupied by Mr R. Simcock. was damaged by fire at 6.21 p.m. yesterday. Engines from the Central and Sydenham stations attended the fire. Grass Fires There were three grass fires on Saturday. The first was at 11.19 am. on a section at 24 London street, owned by Mr J. D. Flitcher, of 3£9 Armagh street. The fire was attended by two engines from the Central fire station. There was no damage. Engines from Central and Woolston' fire stations were called to a grass fire on the side of the road opposite 127 Breezes road at 12.43 P-m. and to a similar fire on the corner of Rutherford street and King Edward terrace at 2.44 p.m
