The Paul Solente, 3500-ton suction dredge, the largest wreck and a major obstacle in the clearance of the Suez Canal at Port Said, has been raised and beached by British salvage ships working with the United Nations forces, the Admiralty announced in London tonight.
The Paul Solente was scuttled by the Egyptians after explosive charges had blown holes in her hull.
Her. salvage was one of the most difficult tasks undertaken by the British ships at the northern end of the canal, the Admiralty announcement said.
