STATIONARY CAR HIT ACCIDENT ON SOUTH ROAD

A car driven by Mr Colin Henry Barnett, of 94 Salisbury street, struck another car without lights which had broken down and was -being pushed off the road near the Paparua County Council building, on the Main South road, about 11 p.m. yesterday. The force of the impact pushed the stationary car forward 66ft, and it struck a lamp post. Mr Barnett suffered a cut lip, but escaped serious injury. His car was extensively damaged. The driver of the car being pushed off the road was not known late last evening. He had got a nearby resident, Mr Allan James Dunn, to assist him in pushing his car, which appeared itself to have suffered previous damage. After the accident, the driver made off and had not been located when the police made preliminary inquiries. After midnight, the police were informed by a man that his car had been stolen. Its description tallied with that of the car being pushed off the road which was involved in the accident. Police investigations also discovered that road sign at the intersection of Blenheim road and the Main South road had been extensively damaged, apparently by being struck by a vehicle. This was a mile from the scene of the accident.
