WOMEN’S CRICKET NEW ZEALAND BEATS N.S.W.

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Jan. 6.

The New Zealand women cricket team won its first match against New South Wales by 25 runs on the first innings by excellent bowling by Duncan and Coulston.

On a hard and fast wicket tne Australian girls attacked the bowling vigorously, and the New Zealanders had to fight hard for success. The ground fielding was good, but several chances went begging in the air. Success came first to McKenzie, who had Mary Allitt caught by Duncan in the slips at 57, but then the Australians settled down, and at lunch New South Wales looked well set for a good score. At this stage the New Zealand captain received a blow in the eye while attempting a high catch and had to leave the field. After lunch Duncan and Coulston bowled well, and New South Wales were dismissed for 174 runs. New Zealand batted again and at stumps were five down for 163.
