MACHIN SHIELD MATCH
CANTERBURY BEATS SOUTHLAND
The Canterbury women’s second eleven beat the Southland second eleven outright in a two-day cricket match for the Mary Machin shield, which concluded at Hagley Park on Saturday morning. At stumps on Friday, Canterbury required 25 runs to win.
Although they had a formidable task, the Southland bowlers took five wickets before Canterbury was able to gain the win. The match ended with Canterbury five down for 28. Top scorer for Canterbury was J. Le Budde (11 not out). Bowling for Southland, B. Morris took three wickets for 13, and M. May two for 14.
