Record Year’s Rain In Auckland
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 27. A north-easterly storm early this morning broke Auckland’s long-standing annual rainfall record and washed out the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting and other sports events. Nearly an inch of rain in six hours from 3 a.m. spoilt camping from Paihia, in the Bay of Islands, to Taupo, in the central North Island. By 9 a.m. .Auckland’s rainfall for the year was 74.88 in, nearly three-quarters of an inch above the record set in 1917. The yearly average is 49.16 in.
