TROTTING Chance For Suzendy To Gain Overdue Win Today

Suzendy, which has been placed second in two sprint races in the last fortnight, should win the Paparua Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s first totalisator meeting at Motukarara today. Suzendy was narrowly beaten in the sprint at Waimate on December 8. Last Saturday, she was pulled up in the Rangiora Cup. and later in the day she was runner-up to Lady Belmer in the C. M. Archer Memorial Handicap. Trained by F. E. Newfield, Suzendy has plenty of ability, particularly over sprint or middle distances, and it will be most surprising if she is not prominent today. Next Time, which is also engaged in the two-mile Banks Peninsula Handicap, will have prospects. The sprint distance should suit him admirably. Cobina was a good fourth in the Rangiora Cup last week and she, too, should appreciate the sprint journey. She has plenty of ability, and so long as the class is not too rich she should win more than one race. Cossack Post, which found the two miles in the Rangiora Cup too far for him last week, Bonnie Castle, Brenda Dillon, and Scoot make most appeal of the others on the front. Reason Why should do best of the handicapped horses. Medetta, runner-up to Willowdale at Rangiora last week, should graduate from maiden class in the New Brighton Trotting Club Handicap. Medetta, a member of C. R. Berkett’s team, trots well, and he should be a good winner later.

With You, which is giving away time in a race at Ashburton next week, needs to win today to be correctly placed. He has plenty of ability, and should show to advantage in this comparatively weak field. Will Not Start Indianna has been scratched in this race, and she will probably contest the Halswell Handicap later in the day. In the absence of Indianna, Delight will have supporters. Delight was a useful fourth in the Parnassus Handicap at Rangiora last week after breaking in the straight. If lie trots solidly, he will have to be respected. Coronet Lass, Red Jenny, Waihora Queen, and Judear are other prospects in an open race. Wimpy, an unlucky third over two miles at Rangiora, should gain a P overdue win in the Canterbury Park Trotting Club Handicap. Wimpy was badly checked early in last week s race and he did well to finish so close up. With better luck today, he should Aksarben was a useful fourth at Rangiora after pulling hard when in the load. The shorter distance should suit him, and he should be placed. Maharaja, which has been placed in his two starts to date, must be one of the hardest to beat, especially it

he does not lose too much ground at the start.

Bentley, a useful third in his race at Rangiora, Fourth Edition, and Irrigation should do best of the others. Wainoni Loyal, a place-getter in her three starts this season, seems one of the best prospects in the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club Handicap. She was a good second to Tourie at Rangiora last week and could easily improve on that placing. Most opposition to her may come from the promising Auditor, which will be having his first start at a totalisator meeting. Taipo, Totem Pole, Compeer and Stellar are others ex-' pected to race well. The double will be run on the Banks Peninsula Handicap and the Second Waihora Handicp, Next Time and Bonny Venture being the likely favourites in their respective races. Selections are: —
