ITALIAN CHAMPION IN ENGLAND

RIBOT HAS ARRIVED AT WOODLAND STUD (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) . LONDON, December 21. Italy’s unbeaten racehorse, Ribot, winner of 16 races and more than 100,000 lire in prize money, has arrived at Lord Derby’s Woodland Stud, Newmarket. He was padded and protected like an American football player, and escorted like a V.I.P.

The “Daily Mail” says: “Every precaution was taken to see that the four-year-old whose Italian owners refused a 575.000 lire offer for him, had the right travelling companions with him. and was made as comfortable as possible. From Italy came his stud groom. Alfonso Rotti. who had already worked for two years at Woodland Stud, and Mario Lad. who looked after him when he raced.

Ribot, which will serve 30 mares in 1957, has joined one of the most exclusive studs in the world. Naturally his presence enhances the stud’s reputation, but since Hyperion (now restricted to a few mares a year), Alycidon and Never Say Die are there already, it really is “the tops.”
