19,781 Names Of War Dead PAGE COPIES AVAILABLE ON REQUEST (Neiu Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 21. A memorial roll of honour, bearing the names of 19,781 officers of the Commonwealth Armies who gave their lives in World War 11, has been lodged in the Royal Military Memorial Chapel at Sandhurst. The Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) said today that a photostat copy of the roll had been specially prepared so that photographic copies of the pages could be made available, both to regiments and to relatives applying from any part of the Commonwealth. Copies of pages, and also of the frontispiece, could be obtained by writing to the secretary to the Chapel Council, the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Surrey. England. “The corps or regimental list required should be quoted, or in the case of inquiries concerning individual officers, the full name and regiment.” said the Minister. “The cost a page is 6d, plus postage. “The roll is in the form of a finelybound, illuminated and hand-written book of 450 pages. The inscribing alone has taken an artist five years to complete. “The sequence of sections is: British, Indian and Burman, Canadian, Australian New Zealand, South African, Colonies and Protectorates. Within each section, regiments stand in the order of precedence effective at the' end of the war, and individual names are in alphabetical sequence, according to the corps or regiment to which the officer was first appointed,” Mr Macdonald said.
