C. B. FISHER PLATE AT FLEMINGTON SAILOR’S GUIDE BEATS FAIR CHANCE (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 18. The failure of three New Zealand champions—Redcraze, Rising Fast, and Ray Ribbon—to gain a place was one of the features of the £6OOO Fisher Plate at Flemington yesterday. In a field of six Redcraze came fourth. Rising Fast fifth, and Ray Ribbon last in the mile and a half race. The race was won easily by Sailor’s Guide, with the New Zealand horse. Fair Chance, second, and an "unknown” three-year-old colt, Allbos. third. Sailor’s Guide ran past the pacemaker. Fair Chance, a little more than a furlong from home. With his jockey, A. Mulley. merely sitting quietly on him, he won by five lengths. Mulley said afterwards that Sailor’s Guide was the best horse he had ever ridden—and he made no exception of Bernborough on whom he had a string of successes. Mulley said: "This is a great horse. He had Redcraze beaten more than half a mile from home." The surprise of the race was the performance of Redcraze, who started at 7-4 on. He strugggled vainly for a place, but was cut out of third price in the last stride by the 200-1 Allbos. His jockey, Arthur Ward, said that Redcraze had had enough for the tirpe being "He was not going to win in the last six furlongs.” Ward added. Mrs A. B. Bradley, owner of Redcraze. said after the race: "Big Red is very tired. He will go back to Sydney and have a spell now." Asked whether there was any possibility of Redcraze goin; to America, Mrs Bradley said: “None at all.' Tommy Smith. Redcraze’s trainer, said: "There was no excuse for him at all. He has just had it for the time being, and has earned a spell.” Rising Fast was last at the half-mile, and finished in front of only Ray Ribbon.

He was puffing and blowing as he passed the post. Ray Ribbon and Fair Chance will leave Melbourne next week on their way back to New’ Zealand. Pandie Sun Wins The New Zealand horses, Mananui. Sir William, and Ark Royal, failed to "gain a place in the Olympic Year Cup. which was won by the South Australian stayer. Pandie Sun. in easy style, irom the hurdler. Arabil. with the favourite. Fighting Force, half a length awav. third. The president of the international Olympic committee. Mr Avery Brundage presented the £2OO gold cup to Mr C. C Morton, owner of Pandie Sun. Pandie Sun gave his rider. Ron Hutchinson, his forty-fourth winner in cup races. Ark Royal, ridden by George Mulley. was probably the best-backed horse in the race, firming from 7 to 1 to 5 to 1. but the.best he could do was to finish eighth in a field of 15. Ark Royal throughout most of the race was near the back of the field. Mananui ran fourth, and Sir William was seventh. The New Zealand-bred colt Summalu (5 to 2 on favourite), won the £2OOO Batman Stakes, over one mile and a half. Sunimaiu finished fifth to Mohte Carlo in the A.J.C. Derby at Randwick, and then ran second to Monte Carlo in the Victorian Derby. His part-owner, Mr Dennis Leonard, said after yesterday's win that Summalu would be spelled and set for the Sydney Cup and the rich distance races in Brisbane during the winter.
