‘VOLUNTEER’ MOVE

Chinese Aid To Egypt (Rec. 11.20 p.m.) PEKING, Sept. 21. A spate of Chinese “volunteers” to support Egypt in the event of war h expected in Peking after yesterday’s meeting of Chinese Government leaders on the Suez dispute. The Prime Minister (Mr Chou En-lai) told the meeting that China would never let pass any armed intervention against Egypt. Speaker after speaker condemned the Western Powers, and several volunteered to go to Egypt in the event of war. The “volunteers” were led by the country’s No. 1 intellectual, Mr Kuo Mo-Jo, who is in his sixties. He is almost stone deaf and has the stoop of those who have spent their lives among books. He was followed by Mr Wei Lihuang, former deputy-commander of the Kuomintane (Nationalist) ground forces, who said: “In case of necessity I am willing to support Egypt as an old volunteer'” -A youth leader, Mr Hu Yao-ping. declared that the youth of China would "certainly join the people and youth of the whole world in sending the warmakers to their graves.” Mr Chou’s Speech Mr Chou En-lai himself promised China’s all-out support to the Egyptian people “in their great struggle for independence and sovereignty.” “The Chinese people cannot let pass any more encroachment upon the aovereignty of Egypt or any armed intervention against Egypt.” ~ China stood firmly on the side of Egypt he said.
