Historians have unearthed the foundations of a royal palace at Wooler, Northumberland, where an English king ruled in Northumbria in the dark ages, the Ministry of Works announced today. The ruler. King Edwin (585-633), lived at Yeavering. near Wooler. Yeayering was then an important administrative centre. Today it has a population of five. The excavations uncovered several buildings, including the hall of King Edwin’s palace, the first of the period to be discovered in Britain.
