LITTLE WORK AT RICCARTON
Washdyke Candidates’ Trials After heavy early-morning rain the outside of the course proper was not available for trials by Washdyke candidates at Riccarton yesterday. The work was done on the small No. 8 grass, and because of the conditions there were no gallops of interest. The Waimate-trained Patris worked over six furlongs with Cristatus and Trustworthy. He will race on the second and third days at Trentham. The stablemates. Overboard and Scuppered, also ran six furlongs. Overboard, a double acceptor, will orobably run in the Doncaster Handicap at Washdyke tomororw
Scotch Emblem has been of! his feed and it is not certain if he will start in the Strathallan Hack Handicap tomorrow He showed speed after a slow start in the corresponding race last week. Washdyke dodged rain yesterday, and the track last evening was in good order Bryn Afton has been scratched for the Kerrytown Hurdles. He was first of four on the waiting list Manresa will be the next to re-enter the field, followed by Gypsy Way and Black Briar should there be the required number of scratchings. The Washdyke-trained Waffles was scratched yesterday for the Timaru Steeplechase, leaving nine An the field.
