TRACK WORK AT WINGATUI

FINAL TRIALS FOR WASHDYKE PRINCE CONSORT AND RED ADMIRAL WORK WELL “The Press’’ Special Service DUNEDIN, July 5. A sound display of jumping by Prince Consort and Red Admiral, candidates for the hurdle race at Washdyke on Saturday, was a feature of the work at Wingatui this morning. Prince Consort (J. M. Surgenor) jumped boldly on terms with Lacus (E. Sutherland) over a round of four hurdles, and these two were followed by Red Admiral (J. Didham), which showed the benefit of his race over hurdles last week, and gave a confident display, a big improvement on his earlier schooling. Unless a suitable rider is available for Roval Mail it is unlikely that he will start in the hurdle race. The Royal Chief gelding was given a round of strong pace work. Overnight rain had left the tracks in a heavv state. There was little fast work, and the gallops were held on the plough. Smart Effort One of the best sprints of the morning was credited to Larboard Watch (J. Didham), the half-sister to Mighty Dollar. This candidate for the Caroline Handicap dashed over three in 40 2-ssec. Netherhall (E. Lowry), Treasure Pond (B. J. Anderton), and Master Ascot (H. T. Anderton) covered half a mile in 54 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41 l-ssec Treasure Pond is top weight in the Caroline Handicap, and Netherhall is a form candidate for the Taiko Hack Handicap. Sir Gerald (E. Lowry) and Lucky Dewar (N. Hurring) went over five furlongs in Imin 10 2-ssec. They were doing their best work over the concluding stages to come home the last three furlongs in 41 4-ssec.

This time was equalled by Our Murph (E. Lowry) and King Cassock (J. Didham), which finished together, the last three furlongs in 43sec.
