WATER FOR WEIGHT

Tests conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture and the lowa State College in cooperation with pig fatteners of lowa State, disclosed that pigs that drank water, at will, gained 101 b more weight in six weeks than those given water twice daily. Cows which had free access to water also gave 3.5 per cent, more milk than those which received water twice daily. Although it is logical, in the case of milking cows, to expect higher production where they have free access to water, the increase in weight shown by pigs with an unlimited water supply is higher than would be generally expected.
