WELLINGTON, June 27. In a land about the size of the Bri-' tish Isles, all tourist attractions are combined. No more than 2.000.000 people live in the country, free from worry, with a guaranteed 40-hour week, without unemployed, and in a welfare State enjoying the highest standard of living. Dr. Werner G. Krug, who visited New Zealand last year, makes this comment in a West German newspaper, the “General-Anzieger.” “This living is made possible by 39.000.000 sheep and several million cattle,” says Dr. Krug. “Here there are no nervous disorders, no ‘manager’s disease.’ and the life of New Zealanders proceeds slowly and sedately. “New Zealand has a welfare State of the best and one of the highest standards of living in the world, with two guaranteed holidays a week. The racial climate between its European and indigenous population is one of the best. “Take the most beautiful country in the world, the geysers and hot springs of Iceland, the fiords of Norway, the Black Forest, snow-capped mountains of Switzerland, the French Riviera, mix it with English park
lands. English cathedrals and tne isnslish style of living, English, Scottish. Welsh, and Irish people, and transpose the mixture to the Antipodes and you will have an idea of the varied scenery and rich colours of New Zealand. “There are 1200 miles of stormy sea between the nearest neighbour in the west. Australia, and many thousands of miles to the neighbour in the east. South America, and hundreds of miles to the romantic Pacific islands in the north. To the south, however, many thousands of nYiles away, lies another neighbour—the empty Antarctic Continent.”
