Destroyer’s Wash Swamps Boats
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. June 11. As the result of a last-minute race Swedish taxpayers will have to meet a bill of something like £lO,OOO, states the “News Chronicle” today. A heavy wash from one of the Queen’s escorting warships, H.M.S. Delight. as she sped at 24 knots to catch the Royal yacht, sank a £4OOO waterside summer-house and countless small boats. Everyone wanted to pay the bill to avoid any embarrassment at the start of the three-day State visit. The Swedish Foreign Office, the Swedish Admiralty, and the British Embassy fell over themselves to pav. Last night the Swedish Navy won. Vice-Admiral Stig » Hanson-Ericson, the Cpmmander-in-Chief, ordered a communique to be sent to the British Navy Office offering to meet all claims.
