GEARLESS CAR
Ferguson Invention To Be Displayed
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. June 11
Mr Harry Fergu'son’s gearless transmission system will be shown at the motor ‘show later this year, but it is still not known when production will begin. A Ferguson Development Company spokesman said today that negotiations were still going on between the Ferguson Company and several big British car makers for production of the new-type gearless transmission car.
“Until we know who the manufacturers will be and when production will begin, we cannot say what the price of the car will be, nor when it will be available for export,” the Ferguson spokesman said. At the motor show the Ferguson box will be fitted to two conventional bodies of British cars now on the market.
The “Fergusoned” car will have no need for a clutch pedal or gear lever. It will have a four-wheel drive. Cars with the new transmission have been tested over the worst roads in Europe with results which are sard to have satisfied the hard-to-please inventor. Mr Ferguson said in a statement two months ago that the Government has gsked for prototypes of the car. He said, too, that military engineers have investigated the new vehicles.
