BOWLING CENTRE MEETS
COUNCIL REMITS DISCUSSED
At the final meeting for the year of the Christchurch Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association last night, Mr J. R. Smtih reported on wage claims by the greenkeepers and their request for a 40-hour five-day week instead of the five and a half-day week worked at present. An increase of 2d an hour was agreed on when the parties met in conciliation in Wellington, said Mr Smith, but the working week is to remain the same. The meeting approved of the centre joining the Employers’ Association.
Mr S. L. Hall read remits to go to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Council in Auckland on June 27 and 28. There was little discussion on the remits and the meeting left the councillors from the centre a free hand to vote on the condition the remits would benefit the game and the centre. A request by the Mayfield club for affiliation to the centre was received. It will be forwarded to the New Zealand Council for approval. The rules of this club were approved and will be sent to the council for acceptance. On the motion of Mr Hall a vote of thanks to the president (Mr R. B. Clark) for his work was carried unanimously. Mr Clark’s term of office expires next month. Mr Clark said he had received the utmost cooperation. SHIRLEY CLUB Winners of the Shirley Bowling Club competitions for the season were as follows:—Championship singles, W. Armstrong; pairs, W. G. Small and J. V. Williams (s.); fours, E. E. Lord, W. H.
