FUTURE PATTERN OF WAR
Sir Basil Embry’s Talk To Rotarians
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND June 11. Air Chief Marshal Sir Basil Embry told Auckland Rotarians today that killing wars would soon be obsolete and that future weapons of war would be economic and political. For this reason, the British Commonwealth countries should solve their economic problems jointly and not in isolation. He forecast that the stage for the transition from killing wars to economic war would take about 10 years. When the United Statbs of America consisted of 48 separate Cmits it counted for little in world councils. When it united its economic power, it was unrivalled in the world. Yet the economic resources of the Commonwealth were greater than those of the United States. Commonwealth air routes must be kept open and Cyprus and Singapore w_ere essential to us. he said. If they went. New Zealand would have to look towards America
