KHRUSHCHEV SPEECH
Passages Quoted
In West
(Rec. 9 p.m.) ROME, June 11. Passages from the speech made by Mr Khrushchev at the Soviet Communist Party congress which, it was claimed, had been omitted from the version, “leaked” to the West and published by the American State Department, were published here last nipht.
The newspaper said that a few words dropped from another passage Indicated implicit approval by Khrushchev of the liquidation of the Kulaks (small landowners). i It said the complete passage read: “He (Stalin) used extremist methods and carried out repressions in the mass, not only of the Kulaks but also for the elimination of Communist adversaries.”
From the passage concerning Sir Winston Churchill’s warning df a German .attack on Russia, which read:
“In this way, Churchill followed his imperialistic aims at our expense." the following words were dropped: “Just as. in a more subtle way. the present British rulers still strive to do.”
The newspaper said the following passage concerning India was entirely omitted: “He <Stalin) was unable for years to take any action about India, during which time it was clear that the winning of independence and the formation of a progressive Government could have represented an Important factor by means of which the possibilities of accelerating (India’s) passage into the Socialist camp could have been significantly improved.” The newspaper said the Washington version of the report did not contain this passage about China:— “In our relations with China, it was Stalin’s lack of faith in our Chinese comrades which led to unnecessary delays in their positive programme for the establishment of a democratic People’s Government and for the elimination of the disastrous regime of Chiang Kai-shek and his bourgeoiiimperalist collaborators." Also deleted was a significant reference to the former Soviet Premier, Mr Malenkov, in the section of the report devoted to “the traitor, Beria.”
