BRITISH MANNEQUINS MOBBED IN MOSCOW
MOSCOW, June 11. A fashion parade by six British mannequins in Moscow’s Gorky Park tonight ended in a “crazy mixed-up show,” according to the “Daily Express” today. ’ “Models anywhere have never had such a reception as the six British girls. Never has there been an audi- | ence like the wild, ecstatic mobs which descend twice daily on the exhibi- , tion hall,” says the “Daily Express.” “The show opened yesterday offi- I cially and soberly. In the audience were 1000 invited guests. “But since then ... ‘a delirious pantomime.’ said one of the girls. “A flick of the skirt, a slight turn of a stiletto heel, and the crowds brought the roof down. They clapped every dress, not once, but a dozen times. "Sophisticated Nola Rose, the Australian model with the ‘cucumber outlook,’ found her way from one end of the rostrum to the other.
«“ A L smaU . girl, her fair hair in straight plaits, her wide eyes dancing behind round spectacles, left her mother’s lap to stand at the foot of the high platform. Nola looked at her and beamed. ‘Mama, mama,’ squeaked ’ the girl rushing back, ‘she smiled—at me, at me.’ "Afterwards the audience of 1500 i swamped the girls round the exit ' doorway. The mannequins found it blocked by a solid mob of admiring men and women. I “There were shouts in English and 1 Russian of ‘You are beautiful,’ 'Thank you. thank you,’ 'Wonderful,* and I 'Friendship ’ I “A vo’-ng man cried: ‘You should have a men’s fashion show, too. We are . very interested.’ “One note handed to a model said: 'Dear friends. You’re charming, c harming. We agree to learn your ad- , vice. Tel) us how to do it and pur best regards to the English peoples.’ "A school teacher said: 'Thank you. I You have brought something full of I colour and life into our livea.’"
