British Policies May Change (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, June 11. Joint Commonwealth plans for meeting Russia’s new economic offensive may emerge this month, the “News Chronicle” said today. Sir Anthony Eden is likely to seek support for his "tractors before tanks” policy at the Prime Ministers’ Conference in London. Under this Britain’s whole long-term defence planning is being re-examined. Commonwealth defence commitments will be studied, and it is hoped that 'Britain’s Commonwealth partners may be able to play a large part in some areas—Australia and New Zealand in the East and Canada in Europe. Sir Anthony Eden would tell ths other Prime Ministers that Britain aimed gradually to scale down defence production and to switch more of her industrial resources to competing with the new Conhmunist economic drive, the “News Chronicle” said.
With defence production trimmed, Britain would seek to contribute more to the Colombo Plan.
