DELAY IN THE COURTS

Sir, —Three local licensees were prosecuted in April, 1954, for selling bottled, beer at 2s 4d, a price which exceeded the Price Tribunal’s authorised 2s 2Jd. For the sixteenth time, these cases have been “reluctantly” adjourned by the Magistrate’s Court from May 25 to July 25. The United Licensed Victuallers’ Association contested the legality of the price (2s 2£d) in the Supreme Court,. Wellington, and Mr Justice Henry’s reserved decision was finally announced in favour of the tribunal. The licensed trade approached the Appeal Court “many months ago,” when the Court reserved judgment. Their delay has been responsible for avoidable legal respites.
