RUGBY BROADCAST COVERAGE

Sir, —Only through listening to local football broadcasts have I become keenly interested in the game. I feel I know Canterbury and New Zealand football stars personally, and have therefore been prevailed upon to attend matches I would otherwise never have taken the slightest interest in. If the public were able to follow the whole tour, such interest would be generated in Springbok names and performances that record local attendances would be the happy result. No wonder people are turning to League. —Yours, etc., A WOMAN. June 8. 1956.

Sir, —Is it too late to remind Mr Hogg and the New Zealand Rugby Union they are the administrators of an amateur sport? The grasping professionalism of the executive members

is most pointed, when compared with their rabid insistence on amateur status by the players. The New Zealand Rugby Union would be better occupied in making sure they can accommodate the gates they are going to get. The Minister of Broadcasting deserves the thanks of the public for his efforts.—Yours, etc., NOT A HOG. June 8. 1956.
