COOK STRAIT CABLE
‘‘PAROCHIAL ATTITUDE” CRITICISED
The Government’s action in proceeding with the investigations into the laying of a power cable across Cook Strait while there was no Surplus power to be transferred was “a blatant example of putting the cart before the horse.’’ said Mr R. Harris at the conference of the North Canterbury district of Federated Farmers yesterday. The scheme was “a political gesture to catch the votes >f unthinking Mr Harris was moving a Springston branch remit that the federation “protest against further expenditure on investigation as to the possibilities of transmission of power across Cook Strait until a sufficient surplu.in either island warrants it.’’
The Springston remit showed a narrow, parochial attitude, said Mr G. A. Nutt. “If this scheme is practicable. then let us go ahead.’’
The motion was lost on the voices
