RECORD MEAT KILLINGS
1954-55 PRODUCTION REACHES £96M
Record killings in most classes of meat were made during the 1954-55 season, according to production figures released in the latest issue of the Abstract of Statistics. The volume index for the year was 1096 (1949-50 equals 1000),-an increase of 4 per cent. oVer the season. In line with the increased killings, the output of hides, skins and casings all rose substantially. But the prices for hides and skins were down on the previous season. The output of canned and other meats, pastes and extracts showed a 30 p.c. drop on the 1953-54 season. The increases in the output and prices of meat in general brought the value of meat production during the season to. a new record of £96,600,000
