CAGE BIRD AND CANARY SHOW
INCREASED NUMBER OF ENTRIES
STANDARD OF BIRDS IMPROVED
An increase of 200 on last year’s entry of 600 birds, and an all-round improved standard, makes the Christchurch Canary and Cage Bird Club’s annual show, which opened yesterday, the best held for several years. Judging was completed yesterday, and the birds will remain on show at the Broughton street Methodist schoolroom until tomoriow. In the judge’s opinion, the standard in many classes was better than in previous years, especially Yorkshire canaries and Norwich canaries. The novice cla'sses were also the best seen for some years. Entries were received from as far afield as Auckland and Invercargill. Through new bloo'd being imported from England and Australia, one of the strongest sections was that of Yorkshire canaries, while increased entries of Border canaries, long a popular bird in England, show their increasing popularity in New Zealand. Best birds in each section were:— Canaries.—Norwich canaries: M. J. Morgan (Timaru). Border canaries: A. S. Roberts (Christchurch). Yorkshire canaries: M. Smith ,( Hastings). Roller canaries: J.
