The King. wh" has arrived in Paris on a State visit, said at a dinner given in his honour by the French President (Mr Coty): “In spite of the gravity of the situation and in spite of the sorrow which I feel, and in spite of the sharp pain which the present bloodshed causes me. I cannot prevent myself from being optimistic.”

The British Ambassador in France (Sir Gladwyn Jebb) has not been invited to the Greek Embassy dinner tomorrow for King Paul, but the Ambassador and King Paul smiled and chatted together for three minutes last night at a reception given by the President to introduce the monarch to members of the Paris Diplomatic Corps.
