THE POWER SHORTAGE
Sir,—ln .“The Press” on June 2, Mr Davenport, in speaking of power restrictions, is reported to have said. “Emphasis had been on equality of sacrifice.” Does Mr Davenport live in an ivory tower or does he read only North Island newspapers? General power cuts have varied from none in Lyttelton to more than 30 hours weekly in country districts. Where is the equality? If, after the prohibition of non-essentials, each power board had been asked to observe general cuts of 10 to 15 hours weekly then not only would something like “equality of sacrifice” have been attained, but more power might have been saved. —Yours, etc., R.D.L.S. June 4, 1956.
