NEW REEFTON HOSPITAL
CLAIMS AGAINST BOARD STATEMENT ON TERMS OF SETTLEMENT The terms of settlement of the Supreme Court actions in Christchurch in which the Inangahua Hospital Board was sued by the contractor and the architects for the new hospital at Reefton* were announced in a statement issued by the board after its meetinj on Friday. The statement said that the terms c settlement, announced by the secretary (Miss E. F. Haines), showed that the claims against the board bv the contractor and architect totalled £6695 The settlement reached required the board to pay the contractor and architect £394o—a saving of £2750. The afnount saved in the settlement was considerable, and fully . justified the board’s action in defending the case, said Mr H. Caldwell. He added that the terms of settlement should be made public so that it might be recognised that the board acted as good trustees of public money. Mr A. Topp said he regretted the remarks made in Court against Mr R. Yellowlees, who, not being a member of the board, was unable to defend himself. Mr Yellowlees’s best defence was not words, but his work. The board decided to record its protest against the “serious allegations against two members of the board and a local contractor’’ during the Supreme Court hearing.
