But it might interest book-lovers whose reading is not confined to romances, “whodunits” and chroniques scandaleuses to have the titles of what one of them regards as the 12 best books (out of 1091 read in 1955:—N0n-fiction: To Teach the Senators Wisdom, by J. C. Masterman; Life in Russia, by Leslie Stevens; A Degree of Prudery, by Emily Hahn; Going to the Wars, by John Verney: Madame de Pompadour, by Nancy Mitford; Case for the Crown, by M. le Febure; London Immortals, by Theodora Benson. Fiction: Yes Farewell, by Michael Burn; The Fall of the Sparrow, by Nigel Balchin: Ever Thine, by Hester Chapman: Isles of Unwisdom, by Robert Graves; Sister Mavis, by Norah Hoult.
