FAUSTO GARDINI TO RETIRE

PARIS, January 4. Fausto Gardini. Italy’s lawn tennis champion, has given up international competition including Davis Cup matches. In a letter published in a French tennis magazine, the 25-year-old Italian says: “I have definitely renounced sporting activity.” He adds that he will be too busy to give the necessary time to training. Gardini may compete once more in the Italian championships to defend his title.
