N.Z. MINISTER IN PARIS
DECISION WELCOMED BY PUBLIC SERVANTS (New Zealand Press Association) . October 19. Public servants, ana women public servants in particular, welcome the Government’s decision to appoint Miss Jean McKenzie as New Zealand’s Minister in Paris,” said Mr J. Turnbull, general secretary of the New Zealand Public Service Association, today. “Miss McKenzie,” he said, “began work on the bottom rungs of the public service, and through her ability has reached one of the most responsible posts any New Zealand woman has ever been appointed to.” “The only thing which public servants Will regret is that the appointment was made only when Miss McKenzie’s decision to retire was known.” “The association’s executive committee, ’ said Mr Turnbull, “last night decided to congratulate Miss McKenzie on her appointment, and noted that it had been achieved outside the control of the Public Service Commission. Women members of the association would contrast Miss McKenzie’s career with the impediments placed in the way of their progress within the public service.”
