ANOTHER DEPRESSION ?
Sir, —Mr F. W. Stevens is wrong. There is no “gap” between total purchasing power and total cost of goods. There is maldistribution of purchasing power, but the advocacy of uncontrolled private enterprise and interest by Social Credit simply perpetuates that inequitable distribution. On the point that the banking system is wrong we may agree. But surely Mr Stevens does not deny that Labour controlled the issue of currency and to a limited extent the issue of credit? What amazes me is the inconsistence of Social Credit thought, which would abolish private control of the issue of credit and yet would retain uncontrolled private enterprise. This is on a par with the sbrry spectacle of contradictions made by Social Crediters before the Monetary Commission and the flirting with the idea of uniting Social Credit with Conservative elements in Alberta.—Yours, etc., A.F.P.
