APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS • MR C. M. BOWDEN TO BE CHAIRMAN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 11. Initial appointments to the National Historic Places Trust, constituted under the Historic Places Act, 1954, are announced in an Order-in-Council today. The chairman of the trust, which has been established to preserve and locate sites, buildings, and objects of national and local historic, scientific, literary, and educational importance, will be Mr C. M. Bowden, of Wellington. The representative of the Maori race will be the Rev. Canon Paora Temuera, of Otaki. Other appointments, recommended by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr S. W. Smith) on the nomination of organisations as provided for in the act, are as follows: Senate of the University of New Zealand: Dr. J. C. Beaglehole, of Wellington. Art Galleries’ and Museums’ Association: Mr V. F. Fisher, of Auckland. Royal Society of New Zealand: Mr J. D. H. Buchanan, of Wanganui. New Zealand Library Association: Mr A. G. Bagnall,, of Wellington. New Zealand Institute of Architects: Mr F. G. Wilson, of Wellington. To represent the historical, founders’, pioneers’, and early settlers’ associations and societies, the appointees are Mr H. E. D. Daysh, of Wellington, and Mrs Ruth Allan, of Wellington. Ex officio members of the trust are the Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr A. G. Harper) and the Director-Gen-eral of Lands <Mr D. M. Greig>. The final appointment to the 12member trust will be a representative to be elected by the associate members provided for in rules the trust is empowered to adopt under the act.
