FRIENDS OF NURSE MAUDE

ANNUAL MEETING A large number of the Friends of the Nurse Maude Association attended the annual meeting of the-group yesterday at the Red Cross rooms, and were welcomed by the vice-president, Miss L. Donohue, who presided. All were impressed by the amount of work that had been done during the year, as recorded in the annual report. With a membership of 75 the group had organised a sale in Cathedral square on the day of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association’s street appeal, and the takings at the stall amounted to £335, the report said. Some members had met regularly to do the mending for the McDougall Convalescent home in Papanui road, and the group had made tray cloths and face flannels and collected jam,, marmalade, Christmas puddings, cakes and many other gifts for inclusion in parcels of Christmas cheer for patients of the association at Christmas. Mrs C. Davies had taken a concert party to the McDougall Home, and a visit had been made to “Otahuna.” Miss M. Corkill, matron of the Nurse Mause District Nursing Association, gave a short address on the conference in Wellington on the care of the aged. There was a consensus in the committee on which she served, Miss Corkill said, that district nursing services should be extended and should operate not only in the cities, but in country districts. “I feel much good will result from the conference,” Miss Corkill said, “and already some improvements have been effected.” Officers were elected as follows: president, Miss Cicely Pratt, who is at present in England; vice-president, Miss Donohue; honorary secretary, Miss K. Davies. Miss L. M. Banks, who will leave next year for a visit to England, was thanked for the good work she had done as secretary since the formation of the group.
