PLAN FOR FLORAL CALENDAR

AUCKLAND PARKS DEPARTMENT

“The Press’* Special ServicAUCKLAND, August 10. A floral calendar may shortly be seen in Auckland. Last month in an overseas bulletin the British Broadcasting Corporation described the first such calendar in England at Ropner Park. Stockton-on-Tees. Some of the 6000 flowers forming 18-inch-high letters and figures are dug up and replanted each morning to form the new date. Mr M. P. Reitchison, a district supervisor with the Auckland City Council parks department, wrote to the 8.8. C.. in a purely private capacity, for fuller details. He was put in touch with the curator at Ropner Park, Mr J. W. Smith, who has sent off a full description, with photographs. Although Mr Reitchison has not yet officially submitted his idea to his department, he said that, provided there were no mechanical intricacies, he would like to see the calendar incorporated in the carnet-bedding display at the entrance to the Zoological Park this Christmas.
