WOMENS HOCKEY

AUSTRALIAN TEAM LOSES TO MALVERN On an excellent ground at Greendale, the visiting Australian Universities’ women’s hockey team was beaten by Malvern by 4 goals to 1. The standard of hockey at no stage reached a good provincial standard. The Australian players, while excelling in individual efforts, have yet to attain a match-winning combination. Malvern led by 3 goals to 1 at half-time. In. the second half, the Australians confidently intercepted Malvern attacks, but lack of penetration near the circle lost many chances. The Malvern team, while attempting to play short-passing hockey, failed to impress as a good K Cup combination, because of faulty trapping of the btfll and weak passing at crucial moments. Scorers for Malvern were H. Henderson (four goals), and, for Australia, L. Edwards. Umpires: Miss I. Orchard and Mr L. Hawke.
