N.Z. ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION
RADIO STATION TO BE ESTABLISHED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 10. A “comprehensive” New Zealand radio station will be set up by the Dominion’s Antarctic expedition at its base in McMurdo Sound, the expedition’s leader (Sir Edmund Hillary) announced today. The station would be used for communication with New. Zealand, aircraft, supply vessels, mobile parties, and other expeditions, he said. It would also transmit news, meteorological information. and personal messages between members of the party and their families. “The work of the station will be vital to the operations of the whole enterprise,” said Sir Edmund Hillary. < Mr A. S. Helm, secretary of the Rosa Sea Committee, said the Antarctic station would require operators of a high standard. Applications for employment in this department, like other branches of the expedition, would close on August 31
