SOCIETY’S ANNUAL REPORT
The annual report of the Christchurch Society for the Protection of Women and Children says during the year callers at the office asking advice and collecting benefits, maintenance and pensions, numbered 2758; visits paid by the officers, 1806; new cases dealt with, 245; unmarried mothers given assistance, 46. Grants and legacies were as follows:—City Council, £25; Government grant, £200; Hyman Marks Trust, £2l; McDougall Trust, £lO. A legacy of £3OO was received from the estate of the late Miss C. A. Pearce. Maintenance from the courts (Dunedin and Christchurch), and also maintenance paid direct to the society, together with Social Security oeneUts received and disbursed, amounted to £8456 9s 7d, a considerable increase over previous years. The accumulated fund of the Sevicke-Jones Deed of Trust now stands at £5438 19s. A net amount of £526 6s 4d was received for rents during the year.
