NORTH ISLAND POWER

CUT IN SUPPLIES ANNOUNCED

CONSULTATIONS WITH BOARDS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. A reduction of 11 per cent, in the bulk supply of electricity in the North Island from next Wednesday was announced today by the Minister in charge of the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr W. S. Goosman). It would not be possible to continue the supply on an unrestricted basis beyond that date, he said. “A general discussion will take place on Monday between the State Hydro-electric Department and the liaison committee of the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association, in an endeavour to avoid as much as possible any disturbance of the normal domestic arrangements of the consumers,” said the Minister.

“It is estimated that a reduction of 11 per cent, below the unrestricted requirements will enable consumption to be held at figures not exceeding those of last year,” he said. “The estimate assumes that water for the generators will be available in normal quantity.”
