INTERPROVINCIAL TOURNEY

GAIN IN POPULARITY ASSOCIATION TO REPORT TO LORD FREYBERG (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. The New Zealand Golf Association will write to Lord Freyberg, donor of the Freyberg Rosebowl for interprovincial competition, telling him that the annual tournament has grown in popularity until it has become a major event almost rivalling the New Zealand championships. “The tournament has developed until it is almost more sought after than the championships,” said the chairman of the association’s council (Mr G. P. Roberts) at today’s meeting, when he announced his decision to write to Lord Freyberg

The council decided to congratulate the Canterbury sponsors of the recent rosebowl tournament.

Delegates agreed that the tournament should be held in turn in as many different centres as possible.

The New Plymouth Golf Club’s course at Ngamotu will be used for the 1956 tournament. District associations will be invited to apply for the 1957 tpumament. The council reaffirmed its policy of holding the tournament in the third week of May.
