BOBBY LOCKE TAKES LEAD (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.45 p.m.) BRISBANE, May 27. The South African Bobby Locke putted himself to the lead in the second round of the Australian open golf championship at the Gailes course today. The Australian professional champion, Kel Nagle, had led after the first round- yesterday. Locke's three-under-scratch 70 today for an aggregate of 145, put him two strokes ahead. Nagle, who followed his 70 yesterday with a 77 today, now shares second place with Norman von Nida, with 74, 73, at the halfway mark on the 72-hole contest, which will be completed tomorrow. The titleholder, H. O. Pickworth, 'with an aggregate of 150, is sharing fifth place. Locke’s shot of the day was a 40-foot putt at the eighth, with the ball covered with mud, for a birdie three. In a south-west wind, his famous draw shot to the greens was astray, but his □utter saved him on.every occasion. Nagle was in trouble when his drive struck a tree at the' eleventh hole after being out in a one-under-scratch 36. From then on he dropped five strokes to scratch on the final . a nt holes. The Australian amateur champion, Peter Toogood, shared eleventh place.
