COUNCIL NEWS IN BRIEF
GRANT TO HERITAGE The City Council has agreed to become a life member of Heritage by making a grant of £lO. Rates Remitted.— Rates levied on the Christchurch property of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society were remitted by the council.
Street Renamed.—The southern part of Queensbury street has been renamed Ferner street.
Community Centre Playground.—The council agreed to meet half the cost of laying out a children’s playground at the Mount Pleasant community centre.
Surf Club Pavilion.— The council granted permission to the New Brighton Surf Club to build- a two-storey pavilion on the sandhills immediately north of the northern car park at New Brighton. It agreed to assist in leveling the sand dune and consolidating the sand.
Compulsory Stops.— The council agreed to erect compulsory stop signs in Breezes road and Avondale road at their intersection with Wainoni road, and on the south side of London street at its intersection with Fitzgerald avenue.
